Pinoy Pride Festival May 5-6, 2012, Las Vegas, NV
Over 20,000 people attended the two day festival at the Town Square shopping center. FACCGN Chamber member Liza Ochiai, owner of Aloha Kitchen, and long time advocate of the Filipino community produced the Pinoy Pride event in part to bring broader awareness of the Filipino community members who now live in the Valley. According to the 2010 Census the Filipino population more than doubled in size since 2000 and now number more than 100,000.
The celebration included a showcase of Philippine culture not only through a diverse selection of regional foods but through entertainment as well. The Nevada KALAHI Philippine Folkloric Ensemble provided a traditional Santa Cruzan parade which included kids from the Spring Valley Montessori School. Chamber members helped man a booth with Juan B Free (Hepatitus B awareness), APALA (GOTV-Get Out the Vote), and Clark County Election Dept.
